Cameron Leigh is 1 Week Old!

We survived the first week! We came home from the hospital Wednesday and the first two days were rough. It was hard to get Cameron to sleep. I think she had her days and nights reversed as she would sleep all day and then be up all night. After day 4 or 5 we finally got her switched and she’d go down pretty easily in between nursing sessions during the night.

I had some issues nursing. Cameron’s latch was too small and feeding her was becoming very painful. I made an appointment with a Winnie Palmer Lactation Consultant for help. We worked on her latch and measured how much she ate during one nursing session. She was easily taking in 2+ ounces so weight gain shouldn’t be a problem. Through the weekend, nursing was still causing me pain so at my follow up appointment Monday the 24th, the LC gave me a nipple shield to use to allow me to still nurse AND let me heal. It’s working pretty well so far.

It seems each day gets a little easier as we’re figuring out this whole new life together!

My Postpartum Update
Pregnancy Weight Gain: 25 pounds
Weight Change: Down 22.6 pounds
Activities: Enjoyed a walk around the block with Cami, Bryan and the dogs

I feel pretty good so far. I've definitely experienced a wave of emotions from all the hormonal changes. Sometimes the smallest things make me cry for no reason - but overall I feel quite happy. Bryan has been very supportive of me and Cameron. He's been planning and cooking dinner and taking over night time entertainment when Cami won't sleep. I'm hoping to get more walks in so I'll be ready to workout after my 6 week postpartum appointment.
