Caleb is 16 Weeks Old!

So Caleb is back to waking up once a night!  All last week with the exception of one night he's woken up to eat.  Maybe it's a growth spurt and he'll go back to sleeping through the night again soon?  Who knows.  Just when I think I've got him figured out, he switches it up on me.  Sigh.

It seems Caleb has lost all interest in his binky.  I think he's definitely going to be a finger sucker like his sister.   He also LOVES to play with his feet when he's laying on his back.

I took Caleb to the Dr. on Monday because he was super fussy last weekend while nursing and refuses to nurse while laying on his left side.  I thought he might have an ear infection but it turned out to be nothing.  The Dr. did say he had a bit of a red throat, but that's about it.

Last week I experimented with my diet by eating a bagel - that turned out ok.  On Monday I tried some Oreo's (yum!) which had both soybean oil and soy lecithin as ingredients.  Well that night was a DISASTER!  Caleb was back to his old ways, waking every hour screaming with gas.  Looks like he still doesn't tolerate soy in any form.  We see the GI at the end of the month so I will get her opinion then on when to try him again.  The good news is that was the only bad night...he was ok the next day at school and that evening, thank goodness!

Caleb sleeps through the night MOST nights.  I would say he gets up once 1-2 nights awake.  It's definitely manageable.  I typically have him asleep in his crib by 8:30 pm every night and then wake him up at 6:00 for school.  

Daycare is going well for Caleb.  He's taking 3-4 five ounce bottles a day.  If he does take the 4th bottle it's less than an hour before we pick him up.  He's been pretty good in the evenings, a bit fussy at times but not as bad as Cameron. haha.

Cameron is growing and learning so fast!  She is learning more words and funny mannerisms weekly.  Sometime she is the funniest and cutest little girl and other times she can be so whiny and cranky!

Cameron started swim lessons at the beginning of the month.  She goes everyday for 10 minutes and is learning to swim back and forth between people, the wall etc. as well as how to float on her back.  By the end of the course (4 weeks) she should be able to swim, roll over and float, then roll back over and swim again until she reaches safety.  My mom has been going and video taping her lessons.  She seems to be learning very fast!  There are definitely some tears and screaming involved but it's gotten better over time.

I'm not sure if it's the swim lessons or another phase but Cami has been extremely cranky and clingy that past two weeks.  The evenings are very hard as most nights she screams and cries unless she's being help.  This is especially difficult for us to balance while taking care of Caleb and trying to manage dinner.

Caleb's been doing quite well this week!  He slept through the night all week with the exception of Tuesday night - he woke up twice to eat but was quick both times.  Otherwise he averages 9-10 hours of sleep a night!

I've still been on a dairy and soy free diet but decided to experiment today with a bagel from Panera.  One of the ingredients was less than 2% of vegetable oil that could possibly be soybean oil.  Hopefully it won't cause any issues.

So we survived the first week back to work! Luckily it was only a 3 day work week.  I’ve been pumping and sending bottles to daycare. We started with 4 4oz bottles and determined by the end of the week he needs 5 oz per bottle. I packed those today and his teacher said he did MUCH better. They were having problems getting him to last at least 2.5 hours between bottles.

Caleb’s sleep started out the same – up once a night to eat until Tuesday night. For the past three nights he’s slept through the night. New trend or another fluke? Time will tell.

Caleb has been sucking his fist/fingers/thumbs for a while now but he's shown a new interest in legs and feet lately.  When he's laying down he likes to grab his feet and socks.  Sometimes he'll even hold onto his thighs.  It's cute.
